Gymnasts: Can you wear special shoes?

When I was little I took gymnastics and loved it. I want to take it next year, but I want to know if I can wear special shoes. I know I can%26#039;t wear socks, but anything that covers most of my feet I will love. I have eczema and they%26#039;re wrinkly from dryness and have wounds on them from where I scratch (in my sleep, beyond my control). I really hate my feet and would really really hate to not be able to take gymnastics because I have to show my feet. This is the only sport I show a passion for. Thanks in advance for the advice!

Gymnasts: Can you wear special shoes?
Socks of course are a no no and taping your feet would not be a good idea since you have eczema.

But yes you can definitely wear gymnastics shoes. They%26#039;re usually made from soft leather or synthetic suede and come in the ballet slipper model with the criss-cross elastics or the fully closed model which are really good if you want to cover most of your foot. In my experience I%26#039;ve found that IWA brand make great gym shoes so you might want to try those.

Most importantly if gymnastics is where your passion is at then don%26#039;t let anything prevent you from giving it your best and I wish you the best of luck.
Reply:They do make special shoes for gymnasts. Dominique Moceanu, Svetlana Khorkina, Terin Humphrey and many others wore them.
Reply:I know a girl in my daughters gym tapes her feet for the same reason you gave. She competes at level 6 so I know it is not held against her in comp.
Reply:You can wear peds or beam shoes. They kind of look like ballet slippers.
Reply:There are beam shoes that your coach would probably let you wear doing all the events. They are those leather ballet-type shoes that the other people were talking about. This is what they look like: http://www.gymsupply.com/productimages/D...

search for %26quot;beam shoes%26quot; in google to find them online to buy!
