Does anyone have any recommendations for a good shoe to wear when I start taking Salsa lessons? I'm 5' 3" and about 118 pounds. I don't want to buy special dance shoes to start out with, I just want a pair that I can wear out and dance in too. Any recommendations?
Dance Shoes for Salsa?
Go to www.partydanceshoes.com they have some CUTE shoes.. and are less than $100!! I just asked a question about salsa shoes too, and my poster recommended me to get suede but my dance teach told me to get leather bottoms (i dont knoe if he meant soles or the part that toushes the floor). And im gonna buy mine from that site And shipping is free for the u.s.. If u dont want anything stylish they have practice shoes, and closed toe shoes they look more like dance tennis shoes, and have a boot style to it... You cant wear them on concrete they have to be worn on a dance floor only or they will mess the heel and suede up (if u get suede). My poster told me suede is the best and buy a suede brush to fix it back up. here are some more websites

Reply:Weredaleboy already tried to convince you to get real dance shoes, and he already gave you all the arguments that I would have given. :-) But I understand it when a person is just starting out, they don't want to spend a lot of money on something that they are not so sure of. Do save his answer for later, when you're ready for real shoes. For now, don't buy anything new. Go to your closet and find something that is old and comfy, has a leather or fake leather sole (rubber sole will stick to the floor and won' let you spin), has solid backs and moderate heels. They need to be stable enough, too. After you have gone to a few lessons, you will have much better idea what is needed. Per your request, I could have said just go to a department store and get a nice pair of high-heel sandals with closed backs, but why not spend the same money on real dance shoes instead. I started out dancing in my old dress shoes. One month later, I switched to real dance shoes and my feet were thanking me for that. If you want to be able to wear your dance shoes outside in moderation (and only in dry weather) - look for leather soled dance shoes as opposed to suede sole dance shoes. But i never had those, so I can really recommend a brand. Check out http://www.featherdanceshoes.com - they have pretty good models of dance shoes on sale. But yeah, they are suede sole, you can't wear them outside. Suede sole is much better for dancing though.
Reply:yes because if u wear u.s.a shoes u we buss your ***.
Reply:Check out the previous answer. Some people have issues.
I would recommend a dance shoe, just because the suede bottoms help you on the floor. But if you're really wanting a shoe that you can wear outside the club, then you should look for a nice strappy sandal that fits pretty closely to your foot. You'll have a hard time with the close fit, because women's dress shoes are not made in the same way as dance shoes.
The sandal is not just for look but for comfort and feeling on the floor. If you have a closed toe, you are gonna totally die. I dance in men's rhythm shoes, which are very soft leather and flexible and only an inch and a half in the heel, and I am really hurting after a few hours. So I can only imagine what it would be like to dance in women's closed toe pumps. If you like your toes, don't fence them in!
I would choose a shoe that is backed and not just with a strap around your heel. A strap that goes over your instep, like a T-strap.
Oh, and if you see any dumbasses like the one who first answered you with their pretentious in-the-hood babble, just stomp on them with those heels....
